Gandgaikondancholapuram tourist complex in the vicinity of Brahadeeswarar temple, a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) world heritage monument maintained by the Archaeology Society of India, is nearing completion.
According to the news, Tourism Department, which is supervising the work, will hand over the complex consisting of a museum, shops, rest rooms and a canteen to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department that runs the temple in a month’s time, it is learnt.
Almost the work has finished. Once the electrical work gets over, the complex would be commissioned, official sources said.
The rest rooms encompass deluxe and ordinary rooms.

Banerjee handed over to the duo lifetime achievement cards at a function where Tendulkar was felicitated for completing 20 years in international cricket.

Banerjee said, "We are giving Sachin lifetime achievement card from the railways. He and his family can now travel free all over India throughout life in AC first class coaches. We are giving similar lifetime achievement card to Sourav also,"

Describing Tendulkar as a "genius" and "champion of champions", the railways minister said: "Players may come, players may go, but Sachin will go on for ever."

"The country will forever remember what he has given the country all these 20 years. Congratulation and thanks to Sachin and his friend Sourav for their performance," she said to tumultuous applause at the Bhowanipore club, which organised the function.

"We love Sachin. We love Sachin from our heart," she said.

The Bhowanipore Club football team, which has moved up to the Kolkata first division league, was also feted on the occasion. It was a proud moment for the footballers as Tendulkar posed for a group photo with them.

"For a team playing in the fifth division and to move up to the first division in five years is indeed great. It's a reflection of your hard work and sacrifices," Tendulkar said.

Hearing that the team's target is to play in the Kolkata premier division together with clubs like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, Tendulkar said: "The real challenge starts next year for you. My best wishes to the club. I truly hope and expect a spectacular performance from you".

Tendulkar also congratulated the support staff, saying without them the club would not have achieved what it has.

TRS chief decides 'bus yatra' in Telangana

The chief of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), K. Chandrasekhara Rao has planned to undertake a 'bus yatra' in Telangana accompanied by fears that Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government may back off on its decision to initiate the process for separate statehood to the region.

In spite of the doctor’s advice to take rest, Rao plans to launch the campaign Monday, covering Hyderabad and nine other districts of Telangana. Party president decided to undertake the 'bus yatra'.

According to the sources, a team of five family physicians of K. Chandrasekhara Rao would accompany him. K. Chandrasekhara Rao who had 11-day fast, the central government agreed to initiate the process for the formation of Telangana.
The TRS politburo would meet Sunday to decide the map of KCR's bus journey, venues of the public meetings and other details.

KCR has warned of a 'bloodbath' and 'calamity' if the government backtracked. However, a majority of the people of Andhra Pradesh were against the state's division.

The ruling Congress and Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) leaders are on a indefinite fast against the state’s break-up at several places in Andhra Pradesh.
With the two regions accounting for 175 seats in 294-member assembly, the Telangana resolution is bound to be defeated.

KCR claims that there was no need for moving a resolution in the assembly to form the new state. Emirates not Troubled by A380 delays

Emirates has disclosed that some of the Airbus A380 which was ordered by Emirates, were scheduled to arrive in the coming months will be delayed, but it also said that it cab be ordered more in the near future.

Speaking ahead of next week’s Dubai Air Show, Emirates Chairman and Chief Executive Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum did not say how many deliveries would be pushed back but he did tell reporters “I know there is a bit of delay.”

He also said Emirates is considering increasing its order for the “superjumbo” jet. The carrier has a total of 58 of the planes on order, more than any other airline. Five have been delivered so far.

Emirates has annouced a fiscal first-half profit of nearly $205 million, which is more than double of its earnings for the same period of the last year.

As well as its commitments to Airbus it is also the world’s leading operator of Boeing’s twin-engine, wide-body 777 jet.

Jet, Kingfisher Raise Fares on Higher ATF Prices

The two largest private airlines companies, Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways, have hiked fares. Airlines are foreseeing a restoration in passenger traffic, giving enough room to the two to hike their fuel surcharge up to Rs 200 on domestic sectors. The previous hike was effected in January this year.

The decision is also spurred by a 9% hike in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices from November 1, which will impact operational costs of airlines. Fuel expenditure constitutes about 35% of an airline's operational costs.

Currently, Indian carriers levy fuel surcharge of Rs 1,950 and Rs 700 up to and beyond 1,000 km respectively.

No-frills airlines like SpiceJet, GoAir and Indigo have not announced a fare hike yet, but are mulling an increase in fuel surcharge given the increase in ATF prices, say sources. Flag carrier Air India too has not revised its fares yet.

The preceding quarter of the current financial year saw a marginal increase of 8-10% in domestic air traffic due with various airlines finetuning their business models. Taking a cue from the rising curve, airlines are confident of gaining load even if they hike fares marginally.

Jet's online booking shows that an all-exclusive fare on the Mumbai-Delhi route for November 14 is Rs 5,829, which includes Rs 100 towards user Ddevelopment fee, Rs 229 as passenger service fee and the remaining as base fare, fuel surcharge and congestion charges. Even Kingfisher has revised it fuel surcharge in the range of Rs 100-Rs 200, depending on the distance travelled.

The continued hike in aviation fuel prices last year saw airlines increase fuel surcharge, raising the ticket prices substantially. This, in turn led to a drop in number of passengers carried by domestic airlines, causing further financial distress to them. However, with the decline in fuel prices in the last few weeks of 2008, the airlines went back on their competitive mode announcing lower fares to bring back air travellers.

Jet Airways - the leading airline company has launched its new Delhi-Hong Kong service, its second daily flight to Hong Kong from India, aboard a state-of-the-art wide-body Airbus 330-200 aircraft.

Jet Airways also flag off its inaugural flight to Delhi from Hong Kong on October 1, 2009, China National Day, the anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.

The new daily flights will facilitate business and leisure travel between the Indian capital and the commercial hub of the East, Hong Kong, and complement the airline's existing Mumbai-Hong Kong services.

Southwest Airlines Rolls Out Fare Sale

Southwest Airlines Co. announced a fare sale to fill seats during the slow fall and winter seasons. Southwest also said some seats on a few routes would sell for as little as $59 each way. These low fares will not be available on Fridays and Sundays from Sept. 9 through Jan 7. Blacked-out dates include Nov. 24 through Dec. 1 and Dec. 18 through Jan. 4.

It has 14 blocks, 34 towers and 1,168 air-conditioned flats to comfortably accommodate 8,000 athletes and team officials. There will be a number of apartment types ranging from two to five bedroom units, each with ensuite facilities which with only two occupants per room is the highest ratio of facilities provided for any Games.

Indira Gandhi International Airport
Indira Gandhi International Airport is being modernised, upgraded and expanded to handle the passenger traffic envisaged during the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi. Passenger and baggage handling facilities have been upgraded and a new 4.43 metre runway, the longest operational runway in Asia, became operational in 2008. Expansion plans include the construction of a new state-of-the-art terminal (T3) with a capacity to handle 35 million passengers per year. It will have 75 aero-bridges, of which nine will be compatible to handle operations of mammoth A-380 aircraft. It will have 20 parking bays for passengers. The terminal, connected with all types of transport systems, will have an advanced five-level in-line baggage-handling device with explosive-detection technology for high-class efficiency and security. There will be 160 check-in counters for fast clearance and more number of immigration counters. The departure complex will be situated on the upper deck of the two tier building and arrival on the lower deck. The roof of the building will have stylised incisions to allow daylight, but it will be angled to protect the interior from direct sun-rays. The airport’s connectivity with the city will be enhanced through a six-lane highway (National Highway 8). The Metro Rail will also have a dedicated corridor from the airport to the Games Village for easy transfer of athletes and officials.

Transportation and Road Network
Delhi will have a dedicated Metro line from the airport to the city centre – Connaught Place – by 2010. The Games Village as well as the main competition venues such as the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and the Indira Gandhi Stadium will be connected through the Metro. The inter-city connectivity as well as passenger capacity will be enhanced. All Metro stations are planned to be Wi-Fi enabled by 2010.

Air India, Jet flights Escape Disaster at Mumbai airport

An aviation disaster was averted at Mumbai airport Sunday when two aircraft got clearance to take off simultaneously from two runways but the pilots stopped the planes in the nick of time, an airport official said.

The incident occurred at 7.27 a.m. when Air India's Mumbai-Delhi and Jet Airways' Mumbai-Kolkata flight were scheduled for departure.

While the Air India aircraft with 119 passengers was awaiting take-off on the main runway 927, the Jet plane with 120 passengers awaited at the cross-runway 1427, the official said.

After clearance from the Air Traffic Control (ATS), both aircraft started moving and came almost opposite each other before their pilots aborted the take off.

This is the second major instance of a near-collision at Mumbai airport in the past four months.

On Feb 9, a near-collision between a helicopter in the president's air entourage and an Air India flight was averted.

Mumbai airport, among the busiest in the world, has two runways running across each other (in X formation). While the main runway is used round-the-clock, the cross-runway (1427) is used for six hours daily.

There is generally a few minutes gap between every take off. The runways are alternatively used for take-off and landing.

The ATC is now actively considering a proposal to use the cross-runway round-the-clock to ease air congestion over Mumbai.

A VIRGIN Blue flight enroute to Sydney has landed safely at Melbourne Airport after blowing a tyre on takeoff.

Emergency services were on alert at Melbourne Airport after a Virgin Blue plane turned around amid fears it had damaged its undercarriage.

Emma Stenhouse from Melbourne Airport said emergency services had been placed on high alert.

"Authorities have responded. Emergency services are on site, however that is normal in this situation,'' Ms Stenhouse said.
